Book Arts Sampler
taught by Lesley Patterson-Marx
In this six-week class, students will learn a variety of book structures, ranging from more traditional structures that are sewn and glued to non-adhesive folded paper forms.
Students will learn the basics with a no-sew accordion book with a sturdy paper cover, and will try their hand at the pamphlet stitch. We’ll build on those skills by making Longstitch books, moving on to a Coptic binding with an exposed spine, a Piano Hinge book, and a gorgeous sketchbook using the French Link stitch. Students will have the opportunity to make their own book cloth, and even add pockets and envelopes to their books!
