Guest Teacher Marla Faith will guide your experience as you mix and blend hues, tints and shades in rich drawing mediums. Become comfortable using chalk pastels, as many Impressionists did; oil pastels, which act like oil paint in stick form; and the magical newer medium of water-soluble crayons. Participants will create a drawing in each medium. You’ll focus on a close- up of an organic object, such as a seashell, for oil pastel. Your subject for chalk pastel may be a human figure. A good subject for water-soluble crayon will be a landscape or pet portrait. You are also welcome to work completely non-objectively/abstractly or from your imagination. Skill Level: any Pre-requisites: none Materials students should gather/bring for themselves: an organic object they may want to draw (seashells will be provided), and a good photograph that they have taken of their pet or a landscape. *** Fee: $110 (Members 15% discount with coupon code at checkout) Art & Soul classes are for ages 17 and up. She has had a career teaching art and art history in schools, and directing education programs in art museums while consistently creating her own art. She grew up in Chicago, and moved to Nashville from New York in 1990. Ms Faith has a BFA in Painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and an MS in Museum Leadership from Bank Street College in NYC. She has exhibited her artwork across the country, including one person shows at The Parthenon of Nashville and twice at The Nashville Airport. Ms Faith is a prolific artist of unique oil paintings, drawings, and mixed media collages, with emphasis on upcycled materials and fabrics.
