Service Description

As Autumn beckons, capture the beauty of fall foliage with natural, plant-based additives to compliment the beautiful blues of your Cyanotypes with color. Join teaching artists Robin Wolfenden and Jen Wilkins in an expansive Cyanotype printmaking workshop on paper and fabric using the sun for exposure. Cyanotype can be used to make artwork ranging from the photographic to the abstract, from the traditional to the conceptual. Cyanotype papers and fabrics will be prepared and provided for you to begin making numerous experimental prints. You will then have the opportunity to prepare your own papers and fabrics in our darkroom. From the way you brush on the emulsion to how you wash the print, there are a multitude of intricacies that will make each print your own. We will explore adding color and texture before and after coating the paper, layering “Classic” Cyanotypes, recoating the cyanotype chemicals for a double exposure, and using natural additives such as rose petal water, turmeric, and soap bubbles to create intriguing free-flowing “Wet” Cyanotypes. Dress for the weather, as we will be moving from indoors to outdoors in the sun to process our prints. Students are encouraged to bring flowers, leaves and foliage from their own gardens. Bring lunch and snacks and a notebook or journal with pen. Water is provided in studio.
