Whoa! I Felt That

Embodied Art-Making

It is experiencing the world from within the sensations of the present moment. Sensing the small leap my heart makes when the mark of paint deliciously hits the canvas. Enjoying the blending of the paint colors in a swirling pattern. Noticing when something doesn't go to plan, and my skin flushes with disappointment. Finding and following the curiosity of what will happen next.

For me, Art & Soul was the first place I experienced safety in full embodiment as an adult. A place where I could be present in my body, move, and create from my soul.

At its core, embodiment in art is about tapping into the essence of oneself, surrendering to the flow of creative energy that courses through our veins. It's about shedding the layers of self-doubt and allowing emotion to guide our hands. When we embrace embodiment, we become conduits for the universal language of the soul, expressing the indescribable truths that words alone cannot capture.

The foundational practices at Art & Soul (Play, Intuitive Artmaking, Authentic Movement, Sounding) introduce and support the ability to create from embodiment. Each stroke is a reflection of our innermost thoughts and feelings, and each color is a representation of our emotional landscape. In this state of flow, there is no room for judgment or criticism; there is only the pure expression of self.

Creating from a place of safe embodiment transformed how I express myself and, indeed, how I live my life.

Woah I felt that! Exactly how I feel! It’s so much like my Artist’s statement. Thank you, Miriam. I hope I get to meet you someday!
